BATTLING VASCO KNOCKED OUT OF THE CUP
FC Vasco went in to the match against top of the table, undefeated Premier League Side Broxbourne Rangers with only 10 fit players. The missing men were Rob Rusek, Lee Kill, Lee Beskeen, Craig Saban, Shaun Burrows, David Finlow and Matthew Reeves, not ideal preparation for a huge cup match.
FC Vasco started the game on the back foot and were consigned to spend most of the match defending their goal. Vasco went one nil down just after 20 minutes after the Broxbourne Rangers striker wriggled free in the area and slotted the ball under the diving James Reader. Many in the crowd may have thought that this would signal the start of many, many goals for Broxbourne Rangers but the back four of Vasco stood firm and soaked up everything that the Premier League side could muster.
Amazingly FC Vasco were soon on level terms. James Reeves used his pace to get away from the defender. He slid the ball in to the path of Paul Langan, who smashed the ball in to the bottom left hand corner of the net. 1-1 was the half time score.
In the second half, FC Vasco were back to playing defensively and were soon 2-1 down. An out swinging corner evaded everybody and the onrushing Broxbourne midfielder poked it under James Reader's dive. Broxbourne Rangers were then thwarted at every turn as they went looking for more goals. Paul Farenden headed off the line after a bullet header from the Broxbourne Rangers defender went through James Reader.
The Broxbourne Rangers keeper was lucky to stay on the field after he palmed away a shot from James Reeves, after appearing to be outside his area.
A great battling performance from the FC Vasco players. All of the team can feel extremely proud of their performance against Broxbourne Rangers.
